Help us Rebuild Following Tropical Storm Isaac

On Friday August 24th, Tropical Storm Isaac slammed into Haiti, bringing 60mph winds and torrential rain. The storm destroyed the transitional classrooms at the Hands Together to Defend the Children (HTDC) Orphanage, leaving the children at the orphanage without a place to attend class.

The storm also destroyed all the schools benches and the orphanage’s transformer, leaving the kids without electricity. We are currently appealing for funds to rebuild classrooms which will withstand future storms, as well as to repair the transformer and school benches.

Restoring electricity will cost €629 ($794, £500), and rebuilding the classrooms will cost €4,404 (£3,500, $5,560).

EDV is ready to get to work, but we can’t do it without you. Please give generously so that we’ll be able to meet rebuild the school and return power to the orphanage.

We also accept tax deductible donations from the U.S. here and in other currencies here. Not comfortable giving online? You can also donate offline.

If you can’t donate, that doesn’t mean you can’t help us rebuild at the HTDC orphanage. Your network can be every bit as valuable as your donation. Write to your local paper, circulate this link at work, or share this page with friends and family. Your help spreading the word can change the lives of children in Haiti.

You could also consider holding a fundraising event. For tips on fundraising, click here. You can also check out more pictures of the storm’s impact here.
