Changing the lives of survivors and volunteers worldwide
English Education
Our free, community-based English classes teach to international standards and serves more than 120 students in eight weekly classes.
The goal of our English programme is simple: To help adults improve their chances of finding long-term, gainful employment by giving them English language skills.
In addition to the 120 students currently attending, there is a waiting list of more than 150 for our free English classes. It isn’t difficult to see why so many are hoping to join the classes, English language skills change lives. But don’t take our word for it – hear what our students have to say.
Meet the Students
Our Haitian-led classes teach the internationally recognised “English in Mind” curriculum and students take four of Cambridge English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) tests. These tests are recognised worldwide and help prepare students for the Test of English as a Foreign Language Exam (TOEFL). TOEFL the most commonly accepted test of English proficiency for both general use and academic proficiency.
Teaching this rigorous and internationally recognised curriculum means that the school provides real, measurable benefits for the students that result in increased job opportunities. In a country where more than two thirds of the population does not have a formal job, the benefit of these increased job opportunities cannot be overstated.
Just €55 (£48, $75) can pay a teacher’s salary for a month. Please give what you can to help pay Haitian teacher salaries and keep the students learning.
