General FAQ

These frequently asked questions provide general information on volunteering with EDV. This document doesn’t address specific issues of particular deployments. For example, if you want to know whether or not there will be running water on a particular deployment, you’ll need to go to that deployment’s page. You can find that page in the Volunteer drop-down menu.

How much does it cost to volunteer with EDV?

Whether you volunteer at home or overseas, you’ll never pay any kind of registration or participation fee to EDV. However you will be asked to cover your living and travel expenses while volunteering in a disaster zone. We’ll do everything we can to keep those living costs as low as possible. These specific living costs depend entirely on where we deploy. Again, for deployment specific information check out that deployments page, available in the volunteer drop-down menu.

How do I get started volunteering from home?

Have a look at our current needs list. If you see a job that fits your skills, register or contact us about your specific interest in that work.

What kind of work will I do volunteering from home?

The jobs that volunteers do at home change depending on what EDV is doing. Our current needs list will give you a good idea of what we’re up to at the moment.

In general, your work as an at home volunteer will depend on your skill set. Some at home volunteers spend their time organising and promoting fundraising events, others work to maintain and update our website. We have volunteers who help keep our financial accounting up to date, and volunteers who keep our social media presence vibrant and engaging. The list goes on and on.

In addition to the tasks we might assign you, we also encourage you to think of ways you might be able to help EDV. If you’ve provided a useful service for another company or charity that you think we might be interested in, or just have an idea, we’re all ears.

What about Volunteering in Haiti?

You can learn more about who can volunteer in Haiti and what volunteering in Haiti is like here.

Where can I learn more?

If your question is about an on-going deployment, you can learn more about that deployment by accessing its volunteer page via the volunteer drop-down menu at the top of this page. You can also learn more about the deployment in general on its programme page which can be found in the Programmes & Projects section. If the information on that page doesn’t answer your question, contact us. We’d be happy to provide whatever information you require.
