Changing the lives of survivors and volunteers worldwide
Week 1: Language Exchange
For our first meeting with the community group, we started with an English/Kryole exchange between ten Haitian students and five international volunteers.
Between telling jokes in both English and Kryole, going over the grammatical oddities of English, and explaining the importance of maple syrup in Canada, our language exchange was a perfect introduction for Haitian students and international volunteers.
The language exchange not only gave both groups a chance to learn the basics of each other’s languages, but also to sit down, find common ground and develop good working relationships.
