Changing the lives of survivors and volunteers worldwide
Weekly Language Exchange
After repeated requests from the students in the group, we’ve started running language exchanges every Wednesday. This will give us a better opportunity to help students improve their grasp of English, whatever their level.
Our language exchanges are two hours long and consist first of a group lesson explaining vocabulary parts of the body or family, for example. An international volunteer explains the vocabulary in English, and then a Haitian student explains the vocabulary in Kryole.
After the vocabulary lesson is finished, our large group splits into several smaller groups and everyone practices what they learned. After 45 minutes or so of small group discussion, the lesson finishes with a game and the exchange ends on a positive note.
These exchanges are designed not only to improve language skills, but to give students a positive, engaging experience.
