Changing the lives of survivors and volunteers worldwide
Wilkenson Jean
Wilkenson is 14. His mother died before the earthquake, and his father died of cholera in 2010.
A friend of the Hands Together to Defend the Children Orphanage found him selling water on the streets of Port au Prince and brought him to the orphanage. When he arrived, Wilkenson had never been to school before.
After two years of attending the orphanage’s school, he is now ready to join a special class at Institution Classique which caters to older children who need extra support.
Wilkenson says he likes Mathematics best of all, but that there isn’t any part of school that he doesn’t like. He simply couldn’t think of a subject that wasn’t important. When asked why he likes school, he answered “I learn things I never knew before”. Wilkenson wants to be a doctor when he grows up that he can help other kids.
You can help Wilkenson stay in school and reach his goals by giving a monthly gift or a one off donation.
